Tanya Bannister’s previous victories at the Concert Artists Guild International Competition and the New Orleans International Piano Competition confirm her status among the leading pianists of her generation. Receiving further distinction as an “Artist to Watch” on the cover of Symphony Magazine, Ms. Bannister’s career has already brought her to many of the world’s great concert halls.

 

Of English and Japanese lineage, Tanya began her piano studies at the age of five in Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, she won numerous first prizes, including the Junior Exhibition Award, Kawai International Piano competition and music festival prizes. She has been featured on television and radio, both in Hong Kong and South East Asia. Ms. Bannister’s orchestral highlights and featured performances are many. Her debut recording, featuring three late piano sonatas of Muzio Clementi, was released in 2006 on the Naxos label. Her latest recording features solo piano music of living American composers and was released on Albany Records in February 2009. She also has a special affinity for contemporary music. Her appearances at the Thalia featured premieres of works for solo piano written especially for her.
